How did you get started with weightlifting?

Growing up I have always been fascinated with Bruce Lee’s martial art skills and physique. During my junior year in high school I was playing soccer and was way too skinny compared to the other players. So I started training with my buddy in his back porch.

How did you get started with bodybuilding?

It was during college, also in my junior year. There was a local bodybuilding show called “Tech show” that was promoted every year by a local gym (The Weight Club). And that year (1999) my friends encouraged me to enter that show since I loved weight training so much. Luckily I found favor with the judges and I places 3rd (of out of 8) in the lightweight class. From that moment I fell in love with the sport.

Which show was your most memorable show?

It would definitely have to be the 2001 INBF Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Nationals. I won 1st place lightweight and then went on to take the overall title. I also won 1st place open lightweight and got the “best-poser” award. Being a national show, it was a huge recognition of all my hard work and a great accomplishment for myself at that time. And best of all, the show took place in my college so I had all of my friends there to cheer me on and celebrate.

How did you get from “fit to fat”?

Well, after my last show in Taiwan in 2003, life happened. I got busy with my search for a career and eventually put aside my bodybuilding passion. And without that passion I simply lost my motivation and drive to stay fit and became out of shape and obese.

How did you come back from “fat to fit”?

My wake up call happened during my honeymoon in 2013 when I saw my pic on the beach with my wife. Around the same time I also had a health check-up and the results weren’t pretty. I knew if I didn’t do something about my obesity I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the life that I wanted with my loved ones. So I decided enough was enough and started training and dieting to get back to my former glory, except this time I’m determined it will be for life.

What is your goal going forth?

It took me 10 months to lose 19 kg going from 30% body fat to 8%. I saw my personal transformation possible with dedication, perseverance and patience. Having gone through this process myself, I decided to start helping others do the same. I believe no matter how old or young you are, how out of shape you may be, there is always a way to get fit and become the best of yourself physically.
